On Sale Thursday 22nd September The Dockyard at Chatham, from the 16th century onwards, was an important centre of manufacture. Its huge labour force employing antiquated methods alongside the latest technologies. In this film, directed by Prue Waller, Craftsmen such as ropemakers, shipwrights and boilermakers, tell their story for the first time. The film is followed by a talk from Chatham Dockyard historian Dr Philip MacDougall who will consider both changing working methods and the lives of those employed in The Ropery.
