The Albion Christmas Band - can there be a better pre-Christmas folk event? A near perfect blend of Christmas and winter songs - a mixture of traditional carols in lively arrangements and songs which are just on a wintry theme - blended with evocative or humorous readings and perhaps even a little solo Morris dancing from Simon Care.

This Albion outfit is a four-piece based on the core original Fairport Convention axis of Ashley Hutchings and Simon Nicol, alongside the multi-talented Simon Care and the beautifully voiced Kelly While, who goes a long way towards furthering the folk vocal path laid down years ago by Sandy Denny. Collectively they offer prodigious and effortless talent with a warmth of interpretation that few can match.

Much thought has obviously been put into the selection of the songs and readings. Mix this in with a convivial atmosphere, plentiful of opportunities for audience participation especially with the carols, and fine real ales from the well-stocked bar, and it really would have to be the hardest of hearts that wouldn’t find itself put into a “Christmassy” mood. A perfect treat for the festive season!
