Sing It! Spirit of Envy! Call Out

Sing It! Spirit of Envy! is a project working in collaboration with award-winning theatre maker Rachel Mars. It is a song piece about greed and envy, solo pursuits and communal contentment.

We would like to invite local singers to perform as part of a pop-up choir for this short choral piece, which will be performed in Folkestone Quarterhouse, with Rachel Mars (lyricist) and composer Louise Mothersole, on Friday 8 March after the performance of Our Carnal Hearts.

Who is it for?
It is open to anybody and everybody - members of local choirs and interested people.

There is absolutely no experience required and we learn by ear (i.e. no sight reading).

1. Preparation
Participants will be contacted in the lead up to the work and be asked to send through a list of a few things they have envied. Rachel Mars then weaves this into the choral piece to create a new work for Folkestone.

2. Rehearsal
We will have a three-hour rehearsal on Thursday 7 March ahead of the performance. During this session, Louise and Rachel will teach participants the song and Folkestone Quarterhouse will introduce the venue and performance space.

3. Performance
The choir will be invited to attend Our Carnal Hearts on Friday 8 March at 7.30pm and perform Sing It! Spirit of Envy! in an after-show performance.

The song itself lasts about 6 minutes, and is a high energy, very funny and accessible piece for all audiences. This will be a great opportunity to invite family and friends to enjoy the performance.
